Frank Mir: MMA's Greatest Comeback Story

UFC 92 did not disappoint. It was a great card, with great fights and a few surprises. One of those surprises was Frank Mir's perfect dismantling of Antonio "Minatauro" Nogueira. As the UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion, Mir has one of the greatest comeback stories in the sport. His life story would make for a great Sunday night movie as Mir has defied all odds not just in the octagon, but also from a potential career ending motorcycle accident in 2005.

It was the mental hurdles that kept him from getting back in championship form. It's admirable how he gives all the credit to his family and friends, especially his wife who never gave up on him and encouraged him to persevere through it all.

Mir now faces the biggest challenge of his fighting career (again) in the form of a rematch against Brock Lesnar. In their first meeting at UFC 81, after receiving vicious hammerfists to the head and face, Mir slapped on a knee-bar and submitted Lesnar in the opening minutes of the first round.

Can Mir pull off another impressive victory or will Lesnar completely dominate Mir?

One thing for sure, Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar II is one of the matches I look forward to in 2009.

Can This Best Selling Author Master Mixed Martial Arts in a Week?

The History Channel has produced a pilot called, "Trial by Fire", based on Tim Ferriss's life hacking skills. The concept of the show is to document Tim's ability to deconstruct a complex task, which normally takes 5-20 years to master, and learn it within a week's time.

In his New York Times best seller, The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich,Tim Ferris wrote about being a "No holds barred cage fighter - vanquisher of four world champions" and having trained with UFC fighters.

If the pilot garners enough viewership, future episodes will be produced.

Since he's open to suggestions for show ideas, I'd personally like to see Tim break down a martial art like Brazilian Jujitsu, or perhaps the entire mixed martial art fighting system.

The pilot will feature Tim learning Japanese horseback archery (Yabusame), and airs tonight at 11pm EST.
